Luis Urzúa Iribarren.
- He was the last one out of the mine
- He was shift foreman trapped with the men
- He gathered and organized the men and meager resources for a long-term survival situation
- He led the underground portion of the rescue operation
- He coordinated closely with the surface engineers over the teleconference links.
Samuel Avalos.
- Raised in La Calera
- He started working at San José mine in March 2010
- He had serious problems with drugs and alcohol which caused problems with his family and children
- He experienced a conversion process inside the mine, which took him to feel "closer to God"
- This helped him quit drugs and alcohol.
Juan Carlos Aguilar.
- Native from the city of Los Lagos
- By the time of the accident he had 19 years working in the mining industry.
- He has two children with his girlfriend
- His girlfriend asked him to marry her while he was trapped inside the mine.
- He was in charge of overseeing one of the three holes that were made inside the mine in order to rescue the 33 miners.
